Notes from the Library - World Book Day

Unsurprisingly , World Book Day is always a high point in the library ’ s calendar , but this year surpassed all previous efforts ! The library and English Department joined together to provide a full day of various book-based activities . We started the day with Drop Everything and Read during tutor time – staff and pupils read a book of their choosing for 20 minutes a wonderful way to start the day !
In the library , there were free books available for pupils to take – and what a buzz whilst they decided which one they wanted ! There were a variety of competitions to join in : a literary scavenger hunt scattered around school , a competition for pupils to show their creative side and make a favourite book character from either a toilet roll tube or a potato , and guessing which books were shredded in jars ( don ’ t worry – only falling apart books were sacrificed !!)

Pocklington Festival

Save the Date : Sunday 2nd July - 2-6pm . Pocklington Festival is a celebration of everything that is great about Pocklington School . Open to pupils , parents , staff and combined with the Old Pocklingtonians lunch and cricket match , the festival will be an opportunity to eat , drink , try your luck at the tombola and come together as a whole school community .
The librarians ( dressed as Anna Karenina and Cruella De Vil ) welcomed three classes from the Prep School into the library , where they enjoyed reading picture books and seeing the wonderful costumes the children were wearing .
To continue the theme of sharing stories , throughout the day teachers read an extract of The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe at the start of each lesson , so by the time the end-of-school bell rang , all pupils had enjoyed the whole story .
And if that wasn ' t enough , lunchtime saw a livestreamed national author event discussing ‘ How to be an Ally ’ for pupils to attend , or the Annual World Book Day Quiz ! We had 19 (!!) teams join in for the quiz this year – well done to all for your wonderful enthusiasm and booky-knowledge . What a fantastic day !
