Photography Competition
Senior School pupils, current parents, staff and Old Pocklingtonians were invited to enter this year’ s photography competition organised by Pocklington School’ s Biology Department in celebration of National Science Week. This year’ s theme was‘ Change’.
The contest saw 117 entries from over 60 pupils, staff and Old Pocklingtonians. The standard was once again very high across the School, pupils were struggling to choose their favourites at the exhibition and there were some heated debates about which should win each category. From moody Yorkshire skies to tropical beaches, the content was incredibly varied, and the methods used by pupils varied from drone photography of tree canopies to up close images of spiders. We were fortunate to have Alex and Connor from Pocklington Camera Club, fresh from judging the club’ s annual competition, to choose our winners for us. They were very impressed with the entries; they particularly noted the strength in the Lower School category and discussed how pupils could take them to the next level with some more finessing and editing. Both Alex and Connor encouraged the pupils to continue taking photographs and improving their skills for next year.

CCF
This term, CCF training continued with cadets having the chance to fire live rounds with both the air rifle and cadet small bore target rifle. The Army section participated in field exercises and enjoyed a paintball session during the recent field day, whilst the RAF section focused on essential RAF-specific skills and navigation. Additionally, the RAF cadets took full advantage of flying opportunities whenever the weather allowed.
We have been especially impressed by our Fifth Year cadets who, through their own dedication, knowledge and enthusiasm, are rapidly emerging as our future leaders. Together with our talented Senior NCOs, they will step back from the contingent at the end of this term to concentrate on exam preparations. It is pleasing that several of them will rejoin our Fourth Year and Lower Sixth cadets for the May adventurous training expedition and the summer camps. We extend our thanks and congratulations to our departing Upper Sixth cadets for their significant achievements over the past four years in the CCF.
