Head’ s welcome

What a fantastic term we have had! It has gone by in a flash, but such a huge amount has been achieved by all, that it is hard to summarise. Some highlights for me include our inaugural Community Sports Day, the musical production, the excited families looking around at our Open Day, in addition to the many interactions on a day to day basis with all your wonderful young people.
The evenings have drawn in and the weather has become less encouraging, but spirits haven’ t dampened for a moment. We have kept up the wonderful community spirit that epitomizes all that we love about Pocklington School through the little things, where kindness is shown to all, and through the bigger gestures such as the walk to church each Friday, our remembrance day celebrations, our Come and See Us at Work mornings or our many OP events.
I have enjoyed starting to get to know you all, listening to your thoughts and opinions at events and through our parent survey and forums, and look forward to our continued planning next term. Wishing you all the best for a delightful holiday, and looking forward to next term and all that the New Year brings.

Sport for all

Sport continues to play a central role at Pocklington School, and this term featured our inaugural Community Sports Day, which brought great energy and healthy competition across the rugby and hockey pitches.
More than 100 pupils took part in House rugby, with closely contested matches leading into exciting finals. Dolman secured the Lower School title, Hutton won at Middle School level, and Hutton also claimed the Senior School trophy after a strong final fixture.
The hockey competition created the same level of excitement, with pupils showing strong teamwork, determination and great sportsmanship throughout. Congratulations to Hutton who won the Lower School event, Wilberforce who took the Middle School title and Hutton who were victorious in the Senior event.
Experiences like this build resilience, encourage pupils to persevere and help them learn how to respond positively to both success and challenge. While many go on to represent at county or regional level, these achievements stem from an inclusive philosophy where every pupil has the opportunity to play, participate and feel proud of their contribution.
Events such as this also strengthen house identity and deepen friendships across year groups, with pupils supporting one another both on and off the field.
Thank you to all staff and pupils involved in making the Community Sports Day such a success. We now look ahead to the next event on 28 February, when netball and boys’ hockey will take centre stage.
