Behavior and Mating
A vaquita uses sonar to communicate and hunt like other porpoises and dolphins. However, they are not social, usually hanging out with small groups of two to three. It is also the only porpoise found in warm water. They have a mating season of April to May, and have a gestation of ten to eleven months. They carry one calf at a time.
Physical Features
A vaquita is small, about 95 pounds, and 5 feet long. They are grey, with a darker back and a lighter belly. They have rounded noses, and dark markings around their eyes, which led to them being called the panda of the sea.
