THE POWER IN PARTNERSHIPS- ENHANCING DELIVERY AND BUILDING THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS
GENDER
EQUITY AND EQUALITY
The PNM Administration will actively pursue gender equity through programmes targeting women and men at risk. These will address the development of skills for equitable access to work for both women and men.
Issues that relate to women’ s reproductive health, gender based violence, child abuse and even incest have plagued our society for too long. The PNM Administration will redouble our efforts to address these issues by:
• Promoting greater awareness from the primary school level to help our children identify inappropriate behaviours and report such behaviours to a responsible adult. Providing additional support to shelters for victims of domestic violence with appropriate accommodation for children
• Enhancing support to unemployed women forced to leave their homes owing to violence
• Providing additional safe spaces for victims and survivors of violence to report offences as well as openly discuss their experiences and seek counselling
• Increasing access to counselling at the community level
• Developing more mentorship programmes teaching family values and restoring hope
• Developing programmes that target men and boys who now appear to form a critical vulnerable group in our society.
