THE POWER IN PARTNERSHIPS- ENHANCING DELIVERY AND BUILDING THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS
One of the more significant aspects of our Tobago heritage is our tradition of caring for the poor and vulnerable members of our community. This PNM Assembly will ensure that we maintain this tradition by continuing to provide a social safety net to improve the quality of life for those who are in need; these include single and unemployed parents, persons with severe disabilities, the elderly, ex-convicts, and other vulnerable groups. We will therefore:
• Engage in more targeted research to verify and ensure that social assistance reaches those for whom it is intended
• Continue to support programmes that provide employment for the more vulnerable members of our society. The Community-based Environmental Protection and Enhancement Programme( CEPEP) will continue with a stronger focus on training and developing participants to graduate into self-employment ventures and even private enterprise
• Strengthen and improve the home care programme for the elderly and incapacitated through the use of voluntary community service
• Continue to provide assistance and support for persons with disabilities
• Expand our partnerships with CBOs, FBOs and NGOs to improve the quality of services and the quality of life of all persons in need of social services
• Strengthen support systems for protecting children, women and family members from domestic violence and abuse.
