THE POWER IN PARTNERSHIPS- ENHANCING DELIVERY AND BUILDING THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS

SPORT

The internationally acclaimed successes achieved by Tobago athletes are due, in no small measure, to the sport policies and programmes implemented by the PNM led Tobago House of Assembly. Track and field athletes, footballers, basketball, lawn and table tennis players have achieved successes at national, regional and international sporting competitions. The recent success of our Para-Olympians is a clear demonstration that Tobago athletes are capable of commitment to hard work and performing at the highest levels.
Over the next four years, a PNM led Tobago House of Assembly will continue to develop sporting facilities and athletes by undertaking the following:
• Partner with a NGO to build a swimming pool to serve the North of Tobago within the Moriah Sporting Complex
• Continue the upgrade and lighting of sport facilities to an appropriate standard throughout the island
• Examine the feasibility if developing an aquatic sport centre in North East Tobago
• Provide management support and capacity building to sport clubs and community based sporting organisations in order to stimulate greater use of sporting facilities
• Provide sport facilities throughout Tobago for differently-abled and the building suitable ramps and bathrooms
• Collaborate with the UTT to establish a sport academy to facilitate the development of athletes at the primary, secondary and post secondary level
• Accelerate the development of sport tourism by hosting and supporting local, regional and international sporting events.
• Promote health and wellness by constructing exercise tracks and recreational equipment throughout Tobago.
