Social and Cultural Development
The PNM Administration in Tobago has significantly upgraded and expanded social and cultural infrastructure on the island through:
• The development of housing estates in Roxborough, Hope, Plymouth and Castara and Belle Garden
• The acquisition of lands for housing at Shirvan, Friendship and Courland
• Establishment of the Buccoo Integrated Facility
• The construction and upgrade of pan theatres for the Carib Dixieland, Katzenjammers and East Side steelband orchestras
• The construction of Y Zones at Plymouth, Mason Hall and Calder Hall
In addition, the Assembly has undertaken several initiatives aimed at empowering both individuals and social and community groups:
• Financial support to Tobagonians under the Home Improvement Grant Programme, the Home Improvement Subsidy and the Home Completion Programme
• Social safety net support for vulnerable groups through:
o The Programme for the Realisation of Economic Achievement
o The Golden Apple Adolescent Partnership Programme
o The Child and Family Development Programme
o The Programme for Adolescent Mothers o The Alcohol and Drug Prevention Programme
o The various programmes of the Economic and Technological Empowerment Centre and the Tobago Rehabilitation and Empowerment Centre.
