Human Capital Development
The Tobago PNM led THA, as one its major policy initiatives, has invested significantly in human capital development especially among the youth of our island. These investments have ensured that the island possesses a well-educated and qualified workforce and leadership skills and competencies are created and nurtured to allow for proactive succession planning. Numerous pathways to youth development were made possible through the following initiatives:
• The Financial Assistance Programme that provides funding of about $ 8 million per year to Tobagonians pursuing tertiary education in a wide range of areas
• The Youth Energised for Success( YES) Programme which funds the professional development training of young Tobagonians, resume writing workshops, life skills training, internships as well as training to ease the transition to the world of work. It also provides employment opportunities for returning graduates
• The Financial Literacy Programme that focuses on improving financial education
• Capacity development training hosted by Divisions across the THA including the World of Work programme
• Services( DATAS) to prepare young persons in Tobago for university life
• The Enterprise Assistance Programme which provides grant funding for young business enthusiasts
• Tremendous support for track and field, football, cricket, table tennis, lawn tennis at primary, secondary and post secondary levels
• The Lalonde Gordon fund and other financial packages provide support for elite athletes
• Provision of extensive training for all teachers and auxiliary staff in the areas or school administration and management, lesson planning and delivery and
the best environment for student learning
• Ensured that all ECCE teachers are paid equitably in comparison to teachers in Trinidad
