Infrastructural And Physical Development
Developments in the economy, the business sector, infrastructure, human capital appreciation, and improvements in the Social and Cultural landscape, have all been shaped by strategies outlined in Tobago’ s Comprehensive Economic Development Plan. These developments have changed all of Tobago and at the same time provided opportunities for everyone to access comfortable and healthy lifestyles, educational advancement and opportunities for recreation. The initiatives include:
• The construction of major institutions for the provision of enhanced services and world class work environments for our worker: the Victor E. Bruce Financial Complex, the Scarborough General Hospital, the Shaw Park Cultural Complex, the Shirvan Office Complex
• The restoration of historical buildings, among them the Tobago House of Assembly Chamber, the Scarborough Methodist Church, Fort King George Heritage Park and the St Andrew’ s Parish Hall
• The construction of the L’ Anse Fourmi / Charlotteville, Spring Garden Trace and the Mason Hall / LesCoteaux Link Roads
• The installation of traffic lights at the Shirvan Junction Buccoo / Mt Irvine Intersection, Orange Hill Junction and Rockley Vale / Bacolet Connector Roads
• The construction of roundabouts at Auchenskeoch, Shaw Park and Signal Hill
• The construction and upgrade to Community Centres throughout Tobago to the extent that almost every community is served
• The construction of community swimming pools at Courland and Kendall
• The lighting of sporting facilities in communities throughout the island
• The upgrade to hard courts in areas such as Goodwood, Roxborough Secondary School, Whim, Dusty Park, Mason Hall, Montgomery, Plymouth, Mt. Pleasant, Calder Hall, Signal Hill and Patience
• The construction of new health centres in Scarborough, Charlotteville and Bon Accord
• New fishing facilities at Delaford, Charlotteville, Mt. Irvine, Studley Park, and Belle Garden
• The building of new secondary schools at Speyside, Goodwood and Mason, and new primary schools at Scarborough;
• IT Literacy and Walk in Centres established in various communities in Tobago so that residents may access online and distance educational programmes
• Refurbished our twelve ECCE centres and assisted in repairing private centres
• The Happy Haven School has been expanded and upgraded.
• Equipped all schools with computer labs; seven of them utilise tablet technology to enhance learning while one has been converted into a Samsung‘ smart’ classroom
• Government and denominational schools are equipped with state of the art surveillance systems, and well-furnished computer and science labs
• Tobago students have access to tertiary facilities such as University of Trinidad and Tobago, University of the West Indies, Cipriani College of Labour and Co-operative Studies, The College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago
