What is a successful project? Terry Parker Consultant/Facilitator DDLS
According to the Standish group, IT projects achieved a 32% success rate in 2012, apparently based mainly on user acceptance and executive support, yet almost 50% of projects were up to 200% late or over budget. If we are to enhance our reputation as true professionals, we need to understand how our stakeholders view success. We regularly work with impossible deadlines, inadequate resources and unrealistic scope to produce meaningful change in organisations but are this good management or luck The answer lies not in what makes success but why are projects undertaken. Our stakeholders need to be convinced that the project is the only sensible approach to meaningful change through business alignment that benefits the organisation. This presentation will focus on business alignment as a key ingredient to real project success providing examples of what that means against a backdrop of constant change and an organisation’s ability to manage it Conclusions: The audience will be encouraged to challenge traditional “scope, cost, time” thinking in order to articulate real project value through measurable benefits .
