Don’t use salt. Salt actually dries out your skin. What you need is granular sugar! Why sugar? Sugar is a natural humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the air and helps it find its way back into your skin. Also, since we have to be freshly shaved, it doesn’t sting your skin like salt does. HERE’S MY SECRET RECIPE FOR A BODY SCRUB: ½ cup of any sugar you want, as long as it is grainy so it can polish your skin. You can use brown sugar, organic sugar, even that regular plain ol’ sugar you use in your coffee. ¼ cup of oil Any oil is good as long as it is a natural oil like olive, coconut, almond, etc. The reason to use a natural oil, instead of baby oil (which is mineral oil) is because the molecular structure of natural oils is smaller and actually penetrates your skin. Mineral oil has a large molecular structure and sits on top of your skin. You think your skin is being nourished, but it is not. Also, you don’t want your clothing or your client’s clothing to get stained with oil hours after you apply and rinse off your sugar and oil concoction. In the shower, wash and shave what you need. While skin is still damp, turn off your shower and start scrubbing. Scrub from your neck down to your toes. Do not use this on your face, the grains may be too large and scratch your precious mug, so save your face scrubs for your face. Be careful not to slip in the shower and when you are finished scrubbing, rinse away the sugar and oil. You can step out of the shower and depending on your skin type you may not need a moisturizer afterwards. This is safe for everyday use, but if used at least once a week, will keep your skin soft, glowing and nourished. You will be proud to show off your skin!
