1. Out with the Old
Sometimes, we collect goals like we do clutter in our households. How many times have you
made a list of goals or resolutions that include “lose 10 lbs,” “drop 2 dress sizes,” “work out every
day,” or similar weight reduction goals? If you don’t get genuinely excited at the prospect of doing
something, or a goal doesn’t make you feel happier and more authentically you, then get rid of it!
Particularly the ones that are really being imposed on you by other people who tell you you should
want to be thinner, or make more money, or be a better mother. You are the only one who gets to
define the woman that you want to be, so don’t let anyone else’s thinking creep into your definition.
Just like with the ugly sweaters and useless knick knacks that you’re shamelessly regifting, clear
those unwelcome suggestions out and declutter your thinking about self-improvement to make

room for more meaningful growth.
2. Give Props
As women, we are naturally programmed to compare ourselves to one another. While dwelling too
much in comparison can be self-defeating, embracing this natural tendency for the sake of generating
some positive goals can be really useful. Make a list of the women in your life that inspire you, and
what you admire about them. These can be friends, family members, acquaintances, co-workers,
mentors, or even celebrities. As a gesture of goodwill towards the woman that you want to be, find
a way to acknowledge these women and what you admire about them. Send a card, make a phone
call, compliment them in conversation, or leave a comment on social media. When you do this,
you create waves of positivity that will definitely come back to you. And you’re starting the process
of defining what you want to create in your own life by actively noticing what you admire in others.
