Living with confidence in a society that reveres “thinness” is not always easy. Did
you have an “AHA!” moment or was this a journey for you?
It’s been such a journey for me. I grew up in Orlando, Florida. As much as I love my hometown,
the fashion there was terrible. Every store I went into was a reminder that my body was different
or a problem. I had all the personality in the world with no clothes to help express it. It wasn’t
until I moved to New York and saw so many beautiful plus size women looking amazing, that I felt
differently. These women looked like movie stars to a country girl like myself. They walked with
confidence and commanded your attention. I wanted that and they made me feel normal. They
helped me find my style and feel okay in my body. Outside of Mia Amber, no one ever made me
feel that way. Moving here changed my life. This city and the women in it inspired me and helped
beautiful. Being an overweight athletic child wasn’t easy. I was always the tallest and biggest kid
in class. Even though I had a lot of friends, I couldn’t help but wish I was smaller.
You also have a sexy swim collection with Rebdolls. Can you tell us about the
collection and if there is another one coming on the horizon?
The collection was truly a lifetime opportunity. Chante (Burkett of Everything Curvy and Chic) and
myself voiced our concerns to Rebdolls about their swimsuits and they listened. They asked us to
create our own collection. And we did!
