Reflecting on 2024

By
Tanya Olckers , Writer
We are seeing the end of a busy year for all of us . We ’ ve celebrated milestones such as Geberit turning 150 , we ’ ve uplifted our colleagues in award ceremonies and we ’ ve had more than our share of fun and education through events put on by suppliers , organisations and exhibitors . It ’ s hard not to wonder where the time went .
The clear themes that emerged for me this year was education , growth and safety . Of course , these are topics we ’ ve covered in the magazine and on our online platform , but I reckon it ’ s been a time for education , growth and sense of safety for me , on a personal level .
Funny how our work and professional lives run parallel sometimes , right ?
We saw Brendan Reynolds step down from IOPSA and Steve Brown step up to take the mantle . We watched the Nedbank 360 graduates walk into the world with their new businesses and certificates , we got to learn a lot – and I mean A LOT – from our new contributor Chris Coetzee about health and safety .
We ’ ve seen our Plumbing Travelling Exhibition ( PTE ) crew put in a great deal of effort into bringing you all fabulous and informative shows . PTE is part of the Interact Media Defined stable , just like Plumbing Africa , and we sometimes forget just how much hard work they put into bringing the newest tech and products to communities within South Africa on a regular basis . We ’ ve had a number of successful shows this year , and while our 2025 calendar has not yet been finalised at the time of writing , I am quite sure we can look forward to another year jam-packed with the latest in the industry .
Getting a little more serious for a moment , I want to echo what Steve Brown and so many others in the industry have said throughout this year , and I really think it ’ s worth reiterating : compliance , compliance , compliance ! The onus is on you , the plumber , to ensure that the products you use are SANS compliant . It ’ s up to you to make sure that if you paid for a compliant product , you actually receive a compliant product .
We know that you guys know most of the players in the industry , so we thought we would introduce you to some of the people who work quietly ( and some not so quietly !) in the background at Plumbing Africa to bring you this here magazine . Our regular What ’ s In Your Toolbox ? feature introduces you to three Plumbing Africa staff members .
We take this time to wish all of you the best over the festive season . Travel safely if you are on the road , and may 2025 be both brilliant and prosperous for us all . PA
