After Alfred Maseko realised the profound effect water has on daily life , he decided to dedicate his life to plumbing .
Alfred Maseko smiles broadly as he enters the PTE workshop tent for one of the IOPSA talks . “ I love plumbing ,” he says . His enthusiasm and enjoyment for what he does is evident as his face lights up every time he mentions his profession .
“ There are many solutions that we can provide people in need ,” he says . “ Being part of a water savings contract helped me understand plumbing solutions and services . The whole programme opened up a new world of understanding the importance of water .”
Maseko , as a director , feels that attitude and professional discipline are vital . These attributes help to motivate and inspire other plumbers , along with the younger plumbers and apprentices who are just making their way into the working world . “ It ’ s so fulfilling to see what they do and to be part of enhancing quality workmanship .”
His company got involved with helping out at a children ’ s home on Mandela Day this year . Maseko was both humbled and touched by the happy faces of the children . “ We sorted out issues they ’ ve been facing in their facility ,” he says , “ We installed garden taps for irrigation and fixed leaking plumbing work .”
