ASSOCIATIONS 3

From the executive director

Steve Brown, IOPSA executive director
It is truly amazing and astonishing that we have reached November 2025 already. I am positive that we are all looking forward to the December break – well, only those lucky enough to enjoy the time off are anyway.
If you were to ask me how this year has been, I have mixed emotions. 2025 has been filled with both excitement and frustration. The positive outcomes from our work with the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications( NRCS) have been unbelievable and the results are undeniable: a huge difference has been made in the plumbing space, and this difference is continuous.
However, it has been sad to see plumbers preferring to have their clients purchase materials themselves, to save them the risk of using non-compliant materials that could have a negative impact on their business. We have started a journey with all relevant stakeholders to address this issue, and while we know full-well that this is not an instant process, it is a journey that we cannot afford to not embark upon. Working together, we can and will make a difference.
Another major frustration we are facing is consumers making use of non-qualified people to carry out their installations, which ultimately puts their property and families at risk due to non-compliance. We all need to sing from the same hymn sheet: non-compliant products and unqualified individuals are a risk to all. well-needed platform.
• TAPIN: Please register on the JMS to unlock the value of TAPIN – not only for plumbers, but for all sectors of the plumbing industry.
• PATHWAY is a programme designed to assist small businesses in growing and establishing a footprint within IOPSA.
I wish you all a great festive season, and I look forward to a dynamic new year. PA

I am still shocked by the volume of requests for assistance that we receive, in which contracts cannot be provided when asked for due to the simple reason that one was never created. Even more shocking is that in many cases, this issue arises for major-sized projects as opposed to small works. We are on the back foot in terms of building a defence for our members. When it comes to contracts, please ensure your ducks are in a row – a verbal contract is not binding.
