6 . 3D printing is arriving in the plumbing industry and allowing for faster and more affordable production of fixtures and components . This technology offers numerous benefits , such as flexibility in design , cost and time efficiencies , and the ability to create intricate geometries with minimal resource wastage . As 3D printing becomes more accessible and affordable , it is expected to play a significant role in shaping the future of plumbing materials and techniques .
7 . Water usage monitoring is gaining momentum in the face of persistent concerns about water conservation in South Africa . Technology – including AI , IoT sensors and remote sensing - is transforming the way we track and manage water consumption . Advanced meters and smart water monitoring devices , designed to be highly accurate , are empowering consumers to take control of their water usage and make more informed decisions about their consumption habits . Continuous advancement of these technologies is likely to amplify the role of water usage monitoring in fostering responsible water consumption .
In 2024 , CETA achieved several key milestones , including :
1 . 1 426 learners completed the plumbing programme in the 2023 / 24 cohort . This reflects a rise in the number of artisans and plumbers that participated in the skills development initiatives .
2 . 700 committed apprentice implementations of new learnerships ( employed and unemployed ) that provided practical experience and enhanced job readiness for participants who will be adding to the 1 562 from different special projects that we had embarked on with different stakeholders .
3 . CETA is looking forward to an intensified construction industry partnership development that will help strengthen collaborations with industry stakeholders , educational institutions and employers to align training with market needs .
4 . CETA is looking forward to more certification and accreditation expansion to increase the number of accredited training centres , improving the availability of quality training for artisans .
5 . CETA is not only focused on training for employment . It also wants to strengthen its stakeholder relationship with SME and cooperative financial support initiatives to encourage selfemployment for its beneficiaries .
CETA ' s initiative to deepen research into industry needs and streamline its training programmes could involve several strategic actions : 1 . CETA will conduct industry needs assessments by utilising comprehensive surveys and assessments to identify current and future skills gaps within the construction sector as well as aligning its training programmes to the industry employment needs of the future .
2 . More stakeholder engagement sessions will be held while collaborating with industry stakeholders , including employers , trade unions and educational institutions , to gather insights and feedback on training requirements .
3 . It will embark on new qualifications development using research findings to develop and update training curricula , ensuring they are relevant to the latest industry standards and technologies . This will allow CETA to undertake pilot programmes based on research insights to test new approaches and gather data for further refinement .
4 . Participants such as stakeholders , industry experts and levy payers will be allowed to give CETA feedback to continuously improve training offerings to ensure employability of learners .
5 . CETA will use data-driven decisions by utilising data analytics to track the effectiveness of training programmes and adjust them based on real-world outcomes and industry demands . This will help develop sector-specific training that is tailored for specific sub-sectors within construction , addressing unique challenges and requirements .
By focusing on these areas , CETA can enhance the effectiveness of its training programmes , ensuring that they are aligned with the evolving needs of the construction industry . PA
