Plumbing technology has come a long way and will just keep getting more interesting .
We ’ ve all found weird stuff in drains . Back when I started in plumbing , we used to use rods to get drains unblocked . These days there are so many different innovations as far as plumbing technology it can be difficult to keep up !
What is important to remember is that drain cleaning adds value to your business and we need to raise the bar as professionals when it comes to this , and other , specialised fields . There are some plumbers out there who have chosen to make drain cleaning the main or sole focus of their business . Specialisation is critical in a competitive market .
It ’ s also worth noting that there is value in offering a full service to clients , and for this , you need to have the right equipment . Ultimately this boils down to how much money you have to spend on equipment .
If you look at it critically , you are essentially putting around R30 000 down a toilet , because that is what some equipment costs . If you are looking at cameras , monitors and the more advanced tech out there , you are looking at laying out quite a chunk of change . And this is something you need to consider when it comes to your business insurance and even the costing of this service .
Clients might complain about your prices on drain cleaning , but you are forking a lot of money for that equipment , and there may come a day when that expensive equipment gets damaged . Basically you ’ ve got to make sure you ’ re covered in case that happens . This is something you can explain to those clients who might challenge you on pricing .
