Initiatives by CETA in the Plumbing Industry
The Construction Education and Training Authority ( CETA ) has a mandate to fund and facilitate skills development programmes within the construction sector . Given the critical role of plumbing as a trade within this industry , CETA has dedicated significant resources to support the plumbing sector specifically .
Current Initiatives : 1 . Skills Development Programmes : d During the 2023 / 24 financial year , CETA registered 493 learners who will undergo training to become plumbers over the next three years ( 2024-2027 ). This initiative is part of CETA ' s commitment to addressing the skills shortage in the plumbing industry and ensuring a steady pipeline of qualified professionals entering the field .
2 . Trade Test Competency : d In the same financial year , 883 learners underwent trade tests and were deemed competent , subsequently receiving their trade test certificates . This qualification formally recognises them as artisans in the plumbing sector , enhancing their employability and professional credibility .
Assistance to the Plumbing Industry CETA assists the plumbing industry through various means : 1 . Funding and Bursaries : d CETA provides funding and bursaries for learners pursuing plumbing qualifications . This financial support is crucial in reducing the barrier to entry for many aspiring plumbers , enabling them to receive quality education and training without the burden of financial constraints .
2 . Accredited Training Providers : d By accrediting training providers , CETA ensures that the training offered meets industry standards . This accreditation process includes regular monitoring and evaluation by NAMB to maintain the quality of education and training .
3 . Partnerships with Industry Stakeholders : d CETA collaborates with industry stakeholders , including employers , to align training programmes with industry needs . These partnerships help ensure that the skills taught are relevant and in demand , facilitating smoother transitions from training to employment for new plumbers .
