NEWS 7 NEWS 7 Mandela Day – Plumblink at Jakaranda The Jakaranda Kinderhuis/Children’s Home is a non- profit organisation (NPO) based in East Lynne, Pretoria, South Africa. The Home looks after the welfare of 200 abused children. These children are removed from their parents and placed in the home’s care by the South African Children’s Court due to abandonment, neglect, emotional or physical abuse. As part of its Mandela Day activities, Plumb- link visited the Home to repair its plumbing. Plumblink’s contribution on this day was to replace taps, tap/mixer heads, washers, hand shower heads and washers, toilet seats, silicone where necessary and handrails. All materials were donated by Plumblink under the Plumbline brand. and stability. In addition, the home aims to provide the children with the necessary therapy, life skills and emotional support that they need in order to become responsible adults and curb the cycle of abuse. This is all in the interest of water saving in 20 houses accommodating these youngsters.The home’s primary purpose is to provide the children with clothing, housing, schooling, food, security The cycling competiveness is shown when Jakaranda enters the Highveld 94.7 cycle challenge. Rumour has it that Plumblink will form a team of 30 cyclists to compete this year! PA The children and youths, aged two to seventeen, attend a local school and the home caters for all other needs. An essential aspect of this is sport – particularly cycling, as well as scuba diving, Taekwondo and fishing – and participation is both social and competitive. The Plumblink team.
