Trade test requirements to get your CETA number
According to the CETA Trade Test department officials, there is a challenge of non-compliance with the Trade Test Regulations of 2014, Skills Development Act, 1998( Act No. 97 of 1998) that was gazetted on 8 May 2015.

This caused the candidate not to get the CETA serial number that allows trade test centres to trade test candidates.
According to subregulation( 2), a person may apply to an accredited trade test centre to undergo a trade test in any listed trade.
The applicant for a trade test must submit the following to the accredited trade test centre. a. The candidate must prove that he / she has achieved the entrance requirements specified by the QCTO for the listed trade qualification; b. Proof that the applicant has completed all the curriculum components required for artisan qualification; c. Proof of compliance with any medical or legal requirement applicable to the relevant trade as may be provided for in any other law or as required by the professional body for the listed trade; d. Regardless of subregulation, a candidate who has completed an RPL( recognition of prior learning) process may submit an additional portfolio of evidence approved by NAMB in place of proofs contemplated at regulation( 2)( b)( c) and( d).

• Grade 9 – 11: must have the work experience of four years in the trade.
• Grade 12 and N5: three-year work experience.
• N6 diploma and degree: 18 months work experience.
All the above must be accompanied by a letter— not older than four months— from the employer / s with clear task allocation and duties performed by the candidate and it must be signed by the authorised manager.
The trade test centre must apply to CETA or NAMB for a trade test serial number before allowing a candidate to proceed for a trade test, unless NAMB gives approval to a trade test centre to conduct trade tests without applying for the trade test serial number. PA
