Plumbing for Bethany House By IOPSA Gauteng Bethany is a non-profit organisation; a shelter and a place of rehabilitation for abused women and their children. Founded in 1989, Bethany House’s mission is to create a caring environment in which women and children find God’s love, healing, and teaching, and to integrate each woman back into society. Modern Plumbing Works came on board to plumb two of the four bathrooms at Bethany House. Once the builder had removed all the tiles and old sanitaryware, all the old galvanised water pipes from the bathrooms were removed. The bathrooms were then re-piped using copper pipes to supply a water closet, wash hand basin, and bath. The waste pipes for the water closet and wash hand basin were also re-done. The bathrooms were retiled and September 2017 Volume 23 I Number 7 the new water closet and wash hand basin within the bathrooms were installed, along with new bib taps for the bath. The bath remained unchanged. There is a desperate need for shelters such as Bethany because of the spiralling domestic violence in our society. Bethany can accommodate up to 50 women and children for approximately 12–14 months. The key to Bethany’s success is holistic rehabilitation; therefore, they not only provide a safe haven, but also provide psychological and physical rehabilitation and support, and moreover, strive to empower each woman to become self-supporting and economically independent.
