SA Women Plumbing Apprentices share their thoughts

Following the success of our previous ‘ Plumbing Apprentices ’ series last year , this year we have started a new series which shares the experiences of women who have entered the plumbing industry . This month we feature Mpho Priscilla Galane from House of Plumbing .
1 . What is the best part of being a plumber or an apprentice plumber ? The best part of being an apprentice plumber is getting exposed to the construction world , learning on the job and getting to experience working on a construction site .
2 . What is the downside of being a plumber or an apprentice plumber ? At times it can be a tough job that requires physical strength and sometimes my body structure may have a way of making people overlook my capabilities .
3 . How do you handle these downsides ? I often try not to say much and get the job done . I let my work speak for itself .
4 . What do you believe plumbing is all about ? I believe plumbing is all about installing , repairing , maintaining and constructing all water fixtures .
5 . Who do you work for ? House of plumbing , a division of Norcros .
6 . Would you consider yourself to be a team player ? Definitely . I am always open to learning new techniques from my coworkers and I also try to teach my own techniques to the House of Plumbing girls . What I like about my team is that we know each other so well that it makes it easy to work together and still respect one another .

7 . What advice would you offer to women looking at plumbing as a potential career ? As a woman , you are mostly looked down upon in the industry . Have confidence , believe in yourself and know your own strengths and capabilities . Also , don ' t be afraid of hard work . PA
