IOPSA Honours Industry Stalwart

Industry icon , Mervyn Jordan , was recently honoured by IOPSA for his contributions to the industry .
Mervyn Jordan is a familiar face for many in the plumbing industry , after having been involved with IOPSA and the industry as a whole since 1995 . Jordan was recently honoured by IOPSA with a Lifetime Achievement Award .
Jordan was unable to attend the body ’ s awards ceremony , however , the award was given to him by another industry legend , Nick Joubert and IOPSA ’ s executive director , Brendan Reynolds .
Jordan originally planned a career in the armed forces . However , after returning to South Africa from a tour with the Royal Air Force in the UK in 1968 , he opted to take a look around for a civilian job . Jordan admits that through several remarkable lucky encounters , he eventually ended up starting his own business in 1995 and then came on board with IOPSA .
“ It was quite small back then ,” Jordan says of the institute ’ s size . “ I am so thankful for all of my achievements . This has been an absolute joy .”

“ Mervyn Jordan has served the plumbing industry with distinction for many years . He was instrumental in developing IOPSA into the organisation it is today ,” says Reynolds , “ Through countless hours and many late nights , Mervyn shaped the organisation and was one of those instrumental in uniting the various independent IOPSA regions into one cohesive national body . He served both as a volunteer and later as an employee of IOPSA . He sat on many SABS technical committees , provided training to hundreds of plumbers , and has a genuine love of our industry . Mervyn is a well-known and much-loved figure in the industry , a true gentleman with a great sense of humour . The industry is much richer for his contribution , and it is an honour to present him with a Lifetime Achievement award for his contributions to our industry and organisation .”
