EVENTS AND EXHIBITIONS 23 Rainwater Harvesting outdoor expo at Together with AfriBuild and PlumbDrain Africa, running 13 to 15 October 2020, a Rainwater Harvesting outdoor expo will be held. Conserving and using the free water provided intelligently, the expo is planned for developers, owners and plumbing contractors, the aim of which is that they consider rainwater harvesting, not as an optional extra, but as an essential. Whether it is for residential, commercial or industrial, rainwater harvesting is critical for the future safeguarding of our water resource. Even if only used for irrigation it means less potable water used to water gardens, and more. Potable water will become more and more expensive. Not only must water storage tanks be compliant with SANS November 2019 Volume 25 I Number 9 1731, but they must be installed correctly especially if being used for the disposal of sewage or waste. This is where the plumber comes in as SANS 1731 refers to SANS 10252:1, which is a compulsory standard, and all pipework installations must be done by a qualified plumber. It may well be that by the time of the exhibition the new XB standard may be in place which will address water as part of the National Building Regulation, SANS 10400. If not, it will certainly follow soon after. One of its requirements will be alternative methods of water conservation. Again, 10400 is a compulsory standard so this method becomes a must have. The exhibition will create a special outdoor space in front or alongside Hall 6 at Expo Centre, Nasrec, so all visitors can learn more about this important water saving method.
