The flow does not cater for all

This issue draws attention to water and the fact that the flow ( a human right ) is not happening .
Sello Mokawane , vice president of IOPSA , makes this point very clearly when he points out the state of our wastewater plants , the fact that a high percentage of people just do not have access to potable water and that there is a gap between older flushing toilets which can use up to 12l per flush and the low flush toilets , which have a role but are not the answer for those who have access to neither .
The JASWIC update continues and clearly the April ‘ silly season ’ slowed down the acceptances .
Uwe Putlitz looks at the consequences of non-compliance , as does Vollie Brink from a different perspective . One only sees the consequences of non-compliance when a qualified plumber must go and sort out the problem – that applies to the DIY clan doing plumbing work for which they are not qualified to do . We would do well to remind the homeowner that he / she has full responsibility for all work done . That is even more reason to employ qualified people to work on the project .
Great article of reality meeting expectation and how one person in the chain can blow an expectation out of the water . The consequences of this can be very damaging to a company .
The process to have our own Water Efficient Labelling System is on its way , credit to those behind the initiative .
This issue updates the Valve matrix , which sees some additions .
IAPMO provides an interesting piece on backwater valves and their role .
This issue our Tell me Why moves to Cape Town and we chat to Gus Basch , who will also provide plumbing stories for future issues .
This month we once again feature our SA Women in Plumbing apprentices series , with our featured lady Nokonwaba Mfazwe making the excellent point that “ Together we stand , divided we fall ,” something which we can all learn from .
Nonetheless , Plumbing Africa likes to present the success of training and we thank BluLever for willingly sharing their success stories which show that women have a place in our industry and more importantly the growth of the individual from a personal perspective .
For those in Middelburg , Emalahleni and surrounding areas look forward to the Plumbing Travelling Exhibition ( PTE ) taking place on 4 May at Steelcrest High School in Middelburg . PA
“ That is even more reason to employ qualified people to work on the project .”
