Whilst every issue is important ………!

……… this issue is particularly so as it carries the catalogue listings for the first ever Plumbing Travelling Exhibition to be held in Nelspruit serving the Mpumalanga province .
It is also a dynamic change from the traditional way of exhibiting , with its primary aim being to reach out to the wider plumbing family who would not necessarily attend exhibitions outside of their areas .
PTE also provides a neutral base for exhibitors to costeffectively meet the wider family in plumbing as opposed to those flogging their own platforms .
IOPSA talks about the Components of WASH , which is an international initiative , and highly important in South Africa and Africa meaning Water , Sanitation and Hygiene .
The point is made that qualified plumbers are the only ones to ensure that all aspects of WASH are properly installed .
Uwe Putlitz continues his series on tendering and the JBCC contract . A task that requires 100 % attention , lest something is missed and the consequences are costly .
The SA Women in Plumbing ( SAWIP ) series continues and the new House of Plumbing Women in Plumbing initiative launch is covered in this issue . An impressive commitment by HOP .
Vollie Brink continues teaching us about the role and learning required by engineers and reinforcing how engineers and plumbers are interdependent on one another .
Our feature this issue is Hot & Cold Water Supply , which is an overview of the standards applicable and the role of the filter – not just the strainer . Interesting that a filter is not required in standards , only a strainer which still allows damaging rubbish to enter the system . Something for the SABS technical committees to think about !
Our project is the last of three Renprop buildings in Rosebank where the engineering has been different and innovative . My first with natural gas and an interesting learning curve as well .
Patrick Gordon continues his series on valves , this issue is titled “ Why should I fit ….”
We look at the aspects of copper as a review of its role and how to work with copper with regards to water reticulation and selection of tubing .
Those in Nelspruit on the 12 th of May are welcome to join us at the Lowveld High School from 12h00 to 17h30 to visit the exhibition and attend the IOPSA workshop running at the same time . PA
