FEATURE 19 all a qualified plumber is essential . Municipalities need to jack themselves as to the CoC requirements as this is catered for in the By-Laws . smell of water . They are primarily a defensive and preservative filtration method . Sediment filters are most effective when serving as pre-filters for other filtration systems . This is why sediment filtration very often works in conjunction with other filtration methods , like reverse osmosis or ultraviolet purification .
If you use a borehole as your water source , whole house sediment filtration is advisable . Groundwater is likely to harbour a larger quantity of sediment than municipal water supplies . Stormwater and flooding can usher unwanted debris into your system . The semi-permeable rocks water passes through before reaching aquifers can deposit silt and sand into your water supply . Sediment filters provide necessary purification for those who depend upon borehole water for their household and is the prefilter for all other whole house or point-of-use filtration systems .
What is a Fine Filter ? A sediment filter captures and removes particulate matter like dirt and debris from your water . Sediment is a generic term for all the particulate matter in your water that is not liquid . Flakes of rust can enter your water supply from corroded galvanized plumbing . Municipal water main pipe repairs can carry silt , clay , soil , and grains of sand into your home ’ s plumbing . A Fine or Sediment filter is the first line of defence against this dirt and debris . It prohibits all this solid particulate from entering your water supply and impeding the performance of your home ’ s plumbing and water filtration systems .
Why the Advanced Valves Fine Filter ? The AD / FF Fine Filter is designed and manufactured in South Africa . It is moulded in WRAS approved metal replacement polymer . It has a flow rate of 37,3L / m at 400kPa and a meter head loss of 24,5m . It has a filter area of 1440mm squared and uses a 105-micron stainless steel filter mesh .
The filter traps and removes sediment and suspended solids from your water supply . Debris from municipal pipe repair and rust from aging pipes can leave your water gritty and discoloured . Sediment build-up can also wreak havoc on appliances , while also clogging and jamming up appliances , valves , and taps . Sediment also prevents filtration systems like reverse osmosis and ultraviolet purification from operating efficiently . The filter will help keep your water clean and clear and should be an integral component of any water filtration process , as well as being the guardian of your home ’ s plumbing fittings .
What does a filter remove ? An AD / FF Fine Filter removes visible particulate matter , and any particles of dirt , sand , dust , and debris that can be trapped by its 105 micron-rated capacity .
Sediment filters do not remove chemicals , heavy metals , bacteria , or dissolved particulate matter . They do not improve the taste or
A whole house sediment filtration application can save you money . Sediment can be a detriment to household appliances . If sediment is allowed to flow through your home ’ s pipes , they will eventually begin to clog , slowing the water pressure and flow in your home . Sediment damages dishwashers and washing machines , often dramatically shortening their lifespan . Geysers / Water heaters will become clogged and malfunction if sediment accumulates in them , reducing the unit ’ s efficiency , capacity , and overall life expectancy . Faucets , toilets , and showerheads will lose water pressure with extended sediment build-up . These are costly and avoidable repairs . Even if you don ’ t have any other filtration system installed , sediment filters will protect and prolong the life of your household appliances .
How does the Fine Filter work ? The AD / FF uses a fine 105-micron stainless steel mesh and a cyclonic spin down action which causes centrifugal force to eliminate sediment from the water . Water enters the top of the filter and is diverted into the clear chamber where the water is spun around . The heavier sediment is flung to the outside of the housing by centrifugal force before settling at the bottom of the chamber . Using a mesh screen , particulate anywhere above 105 microns is further separated from the water . These filters are designed to do the heavy lifting , like removing large chunks of dirt and debris from well water . AD / FF fine filters do not require disposable cartridges . When the stainless-steel mesh filter becomes full of sediment , the debris can be flushed out of the filter by closing off the supply using the integral shutoff ball valve and then unscrewing the clear cap and removing the mesh filter in order to flush it clean .
