YouTube channel focusing
on OHS
Creating a healthy and safe working environment is important in
all trades. The plumbing industry is no different but sadly, certain
health and safety precautionary measures are often overlooked.
The Institute of Plumbing South Africa (IOPSA) has
produced a YouTube channel where a video will
be uploaded every month for the next six months,
focusing on a specific topic concerning health and
safety in the plumbing industry.
The videos on the YouTube channel will be accessible to
both members and non-members of IOPSA. As a way
of ensuring that many people get access to the videos,
the institute has made them available on a variety of
platforms in addition to YouTube, including the IOPSA
website (iopsa.org) and Facebook (IOPSA online). The
institute is looking to expand its social media presence
to Twitter and Instagram.
Viewers can create reminders for every Thursday, as

YouTube and other platforms. The videos are expected

The YouTube channel is called The Institute of Plumbing
SA, and already has some useful health and safety
videos for viewers to check out. The monthly videos will
be focusing on the following occupational health and
safety topics:
• Working at height
• Deep excavation
• Lifting and carrying
• Personal protective equipment
• Tool box talk
• Working in confined spaces
suitable to be used for a site induction, requiring minimal
effort from the instructor.
The best thing about the videos is that they have
a multiple purpose of creating awareness around
occupational health and safety in the plumbing industry.
A healthy and safe working environment is not only
beneficial to plumbers, but for plumbing company
owners as well. PA
