Our third year in the Covid phase paints a fair picture
The first quarter of 2022 has flown by . I trust it has been good to all readers .
In this issue , Brendan Reynolds pulls out his crystal ball to discover it is blurry and cloudy , but he presents a fair picture of our third year in the Covid phase . To summarise : “ It will be a year in which to be flexible and fast on your feet .”
You will read the change that the PlumbDrain exhibition is taking , and we are now going to the wider areas that cannot / could not necessarily attend the static exhibition .
For those who take up the CPD Questionnaire please take note of the procedure to obtain your points .
For those who remember WPC 2016 held in Cape Town , we decided to look at the outcomes of that conference . It makes for interesting reading especially in the light of climate change and global warming in which the plumber has and will be taking a greater interest in these topics .
We have extracted an article from Plumber magazine which ties in well with our Preventive Maintenance article and check list . Also in this issue is an article on Unique Value Proposition which in the earlier days was known as the Unique Selling Proposition . It highlights very much the opportunities around the preventive maintenance opportunities to increase profit , not because you are a plumber but rather a good plumber that cares for customers .
Uwe Putlitz provides detailed advice on tendering and the detail involved . Probably in a smaller way , this could also be related to quotes and the detail they need .
Our feature is on ‘ Drainage ’ and whilst this may be old hat for some of our readers , the SANS standard offers good detail especially in the annexures . It is a wide topic so we have extracted the main headings which do draw attention to the detail .
Our project is ‘ The Vantage ’, one of three developments in the leafy suburb of Rosebank by ACS Consulting Engineers . This project shows the application of increasing technology and how plumbing and mechanical are much closer because of technology .
Vollie Brink guides us through the fine line between a civil and mechanical engineer and comfortably positions the plumber in their role .
IAPMO keep us aware of that dreaded Legionella and of course , the plumber ’ s responsibility in ensuring our customers are safe and healthy .
We look at the difference between a Test and Certification which does need to be understood by all . We also add the fact that there are four SANAS accredited certification bodies that provide a service to aspects of our sector . These certifications are fully recognised to SANS standards and should not be brushed aside based on potentially out of date notions .
Enjoy the read ! PA
