By
Rory Macnamara
In 2019 Plumbing Africa addressed the issue of touchless technology . Whilst this was in the middle of the pandemic , we now look at touchless for more reasons than just diseases / viruses , but cost-effective operation , maintenance , and reliability .

Critical insofar as public places , like schools , public toilets , health centres , hospitals , clinics , and places where the public gather for different activities is the hygiene factor .
Touchless Technology in whatever form from a hygienic point of view has a major application in this country .
The big question around touchless in South Africa is the damage that is done to these products , especially in public places , and the perception that they are more trouble than they are worth . This could not be further from the truth .
Like any installation it must be done correctly , by qualified plumbers who have been trained in this technology and maintained properly .
It is wrong of the property management companies , whether self-managed or farmed out , not to ensure plumbing fixtures and fittings are properly always maintained . The cost of a maintenance contract far outweighs the cost of replacement , time saving and frustration experienced .
Besides , a healthier touchless environment makes for fewer communicable disease centres !
