Get with it and stop moaning!

That irritating refrain that comes from plumbers,“ What can IOPSA do for me?” is merely an excuse and has no basis to even be considered a valid objection.

At the annual awards this year, IOPSA recognised some plumbers who had been members for 20 years and more— actually, not only members, but also practising plumbers and highly successful at that, too. Why? Simply because they have always been a part of the plumbing industry and are prepared to put back into the very industry that provides them with a good living.
There are other successful plumbers out there, sadly not members, but who in one way or another give back to the industry that serves them well.
IOPSA is represented on the SABS technical committees and working groups. It is through this that plumbers enjoy a formal structure in which to practice their trade. Without such a structure, chaos would reign supreme. They hold webinars and provide valuable technical information and assistance to the plumber when in need. IOPSA is a fellowship where, as members, one enjoys the comradeship and sharing of knowledge at events.
Activities such as these provide IOPSA with direction in terms of the priorities it should embark on.
If you isolate yourself from the activities of the formal industry, you only have yourself to blame when you find yourself out in the cold with no support, no structure, and an unprofitable business. Instead of trying to justify your poor excuses, visit www. iopsa. org. za and see for yourself what they are doing. Then you will understand that by being a part of the body, it can achieve so much more together.
IOPSA represents plumbers, merchants, and manufacturers; so much knowledge can be gained by being a part of this powerhouse for only R300 a month— peanuts compared to what you receive in return.
So here is the challenge— join for a year and then you will achieve two things: you will see what IOPSA really does and, at worst, at least be able to criticise.
For those who are members and come up with this refrain— where have you been?
Folks, the industry needs a strong plumbing body consisting of qualified people to tackle the unqualified and the non-compliant in plumbing. PA
