Associations 55 Business opportunities for plumbers New construction industry BEE codes will be published this year, affecting the plumbing industry. By IOPSA The construction industry code is one of two sectors that were not published in 2016; however, the financial sector codes have been published and have had an impact on the plumbing industry. This can be confusing for plumbers if there is no clarity on how these codes work and how they are changing the plumbing environment. It is contractors’ responsibility to keep up with legislation and regulations within their sector, to thoroughly understand the ever-changing environment and take advantage of opportunities that will arise. The Institute of Plumbing South Africa (IOPSA) is lending a helping hand with this. IOPSA has contracted a BEE consultant to help facilitate the following: • Communicating information to existing members about both existing and new codes; • Opportunities for QSE businesses as well as exempt small plumbing businesses to comply; and • Offering various services and solutions to larger plumbing companies, manufacturers, and insurers to obtain the required BEE points.
