Fitting thought Really time to say goodbye, but … 1 Plumbing Africa At the risk of the industry bursting into laughter, yet again, it is time for me to say goodbye to my involvement with Plumbing Africa as editor. But … In order to make way for a younger team that will take the journal to greater heights, it is necessary to relate to the ever-younger reader as well as the expanding market where growth exists for plumbers. Nonetheless, I will remain with the company, off site and in a different capacity, one being as mentor to these budding young folk, as well as promoting IMD to the corporate world now that we have grown to such an extent. So, it really is farewell and thank you for the great opportunity that plumbing has given me in my own personal development. This issue of Plumbing Africa remains jam-packed with thought- provoking inputs from our contributors. We introduce you to IOPSA’s national technical manager, Mark de Wet, who is a plumber himself. We look at some pertinent business tips and advice as well as the regulatory aspect of the NWRS 2. IOPSA has provided some interesting items on BEE and skills, showing also the hard work they are doing for the industry. Legionella remains a cause of concern for plumbing, primarily because of the inferior workmanship and non-compliance with which South Africa is cursed. Again, CPD points are on the table for you to make sure you are up to speed with knowledge. Our “Wall of fame” takes on a new angle, where we present the project pictures of plumbing excellence. Conversely, “Wall of shame” continues to make our hair stand on end with the unbelievable (we use that word with reservation) and dangerous installations. We meet a new player in the sanitaryware field; yet, not new to our industry. They bring their wealth of experience to the industry in a specialised field of wholesaling. Finally, we comment on IOPSA’s role in industry. Readers, it is our only body — make it work for you and plumbing.
