Born to the water – A legacy of enthusiasm
By
David Smith
This month Terry Smith of Legacy Plumbing tells us about being a plumbing contractor .
David : “ So , when did this all begin for you ?”
Terry : “ Yeah , funny enough when I left school I went into trade school to study the building trade for quite a while and then I worked with my old man , and then the building trade kind of died . And I jumped corporate . Then I said to the wife , ‘ you know , it ' s time to get back to the roots .’ That ’ s when Legacy Plumbing was born . I mean , I ' ve just always had this love for water , whether it ’ s my love for water sports , or playing ice hockey – even if it ' s water that is frozen , all my favourite sports and passions just seem to be related to water .”
“ I ’ m just really fascinated by water and I ’ ve really enjoyed all the challenges that come with plumbing . I think , for me , every day is completely different . You know , I don ' t think there is a day that you wake up when you ' ve got the same problem . I ' ve always loved plumbing , I don ' t know how to explain it . In fact , I belong to a crowd networking organisation where I presented my business this morning and the guy ’ s reaction after I told him about myself and what my hobbies are like , he said , ‘ I think you are true plumber , born to the water .’”
David : “ I was going to ask , are there any particular experiences from the early days which still stand out for you to this day ?”
Terry : “ Well , it was funny you know , when I was in trade school and plumbing back then was primarily galvanized piping . I mean , you try and do that today . It could be quite funny , but yeah , it ' s just that I think do it all backwards . To this day I still love copper , I enjoy doing all the threading and the fantastic feeling you get when you plug it in and everything works beautifully .”
