To subvert or not to subvert - it is not the question !
Sounds like we are making breaking the law optional . Nothing could be further from the truth as we show in both the Four Ps of Plumbing and the Taps and Mixers matrix .
Whilst the matrix does not represent all the products that are SANS accredited , due to non-return of the questionnaire , there are a whole bunch of products that do not comply with the standards and yet are being brought into the country , which may be sold , but may not be installed . So , the DTIC in its infinite wisdom could explain how and why this anomaly arises and it just does not make business sense .
Having this discussion with a supplier of non-compliant products I was informed that the TUV standard , which they hold , is better than SANS ! Had to be the worst excuse for knowingly breaking the law I have heard . TUV is the German standard and excellent for Germany . SANS is for South Africa . So , we come back to enforcement of the law , at which we fail miserably in SA . Or is this a stop gap to support corrupt practices – just saying ?
Our project is The Capital Hotel Mbombela , which was described as a conventional plumbing installation but not without challenges as the photos show . The piping had to be positioned below the first floor due to the reinforced concrete and not knowing where the rebar was .

Uwe continues his series on tendering which may not apply to all our readers , but the content is worth reading as it again shows the need for accuracy in quoting and communication plus all the other aspects of tendering .
We overview the first Plumbing Travelling Exhibition , an unusual concept for plumbing that shows the need for change from the traditional indoor expo - which has its place but what we are doing now is taking plumbing technology to the areas that would not normally attend indoor exhibitions .
