PROJECT 27
With a national footprint , the hybrid hotel includes studios , suites , flexible one- , two- and three-bedroom apartments .
It is a new hotel in Mbombela with 146 keys . David Wills of Wills Franklin Pretorius was the design engineer for the plumbing contract , providing all design documentation and conducting the site inspections .
A rational design standard in accordance with SANS 10400 was followed due to the complexity of the building . One of the greatest challenges was building a new project just after the Covid stage 5 lockdown . Material availability was indeed a challenge .
The water reticulation from the municipal supply is connected to a section steel tank . The tank is filled with a Bermad tank inlet valve . The cold-water reticulation is then boosted to the building at 550kPa . The system has been designed as an up-feed system . Some of the reticulation on the roof is exposed to the atmosphere and the piping for hot and cold water was insulated and clad . In this case the protection is more for UV than freezing . The hot water returns are piped into a common hot water return collector which is reticulated back to the hot water plant room . Each hot water return is controlled by a Caleffi 116 thermostatic balancing . David makes the point - three modern type mechanical temperature controlled balancing valves are great .
The drainage reticulation is a single stack design with a stub stack on the lowest floor . On all the floors above 2 nd -5 th floor the hotel
Booster pumps .
