The role of the technical manager
By
Rory Macnamara
Last month we introduced you to Kurt Vermaak , the newly appointed Technical Manager for IOPSA Western Cape .
“ Technical managers engage with the building and water inspectorates in their regions and keep them up to speed with developments in industry as well as standards .”
Plumbing Africa chatted to Steve Brown IOPSA Operational Manager , about the role and function of a technical manager . Gauteng has Steve van Zyl in this position .
The duty of a Technical manager is essentially to meet with IOPSA members on all matters technical . A huge membership benefit is where technical queries can be answered by one who resides in the province , knows the province and its people . As such , the technical manager is known to a wider number of plumbers and can encourage them to join IOPSA to reap this critical part of a plumber ’ s day-to-day job .
The Technical Manager also engages with consumers on issues that require putting their minds at rest . Arising from this , he will also conduct inspections and provide reports on both members and non-member installations .
The position enables him to engage with the building and water inspectorates in their regions and keep them up to speed with developments in industry as well as standards .
This requires them to work with the regional committees in term of regional and national goals . He will be a constant presence at local IOPSA meetings .
Once appointed , the full time Auditor will be managed and supported by the Technical managers .
Yet another benefit from IOPSA membership that puts the plumber and the consumer first . PA
