ASSOCIATIONS 57 IOPSA calls on members for B-BBEE certificates B-BBEE has been a buzzword in South Africa for several years now, and most companies have put strategies in place to ensure some level of compliance. It has become an important mechanism for organisations to demonstrate their transformation and empowerment credentials. “For organisations such as IOPSA, it is critical to show legitimacy and that we represent a broad spectrum of members and not just a select few,” says an association spokesperson. “IOPSA has never collected any B-BBEE information from its members, but in our interactions with government, municipalities, insurance companies, and several other important bodies, it is becoming more and www.plumbingafrica.co.za more important for us to have some clear B-BBEE data about our members. We have already implemented a requirement for new members to submit their B-BBEE certificates (if they have one), but we urgently need to know your status.” The association urges members to forward their B-BBEE certificate to [email protected] as soon as possible. If a company does not have one or has not been rated yet, they should let IOPSA know. The association wants to highlight that this is purely for information purposes to enable IOPSA to better serve their members. PA July 2018 Volume 24 I Number 5
