This is the third in our feature on the SA Women in Plumbing ( SAWIP ) Executive members . This month we chat to Celmarie Smit .
What is your involvement in the plumbing industry ? I am membership administrator and treasurer for SAWIP . I am here to assist and guide members with their plumbing needs .
What do you believe is the greatest challenge for women in plumbing ? The plumbing trade is a very competitive trade for women from a woman ’ s perspective .
Tell us something about Celmarie and her achievements ? I am a wife and a mother of two beautiful children . I have been in the plumbing trade for seven years now , where I started in admin for a plumbing company and currently as a membership admin for SAWIP .
What would you like to see change in the country ? I ’ d like to see more women involved in the plumbing industry and also more benefits in the plumbing trade .
How would you like to see this change happen and what would your contribution be ?
I would like to help create opportunities for women in the plumbing trade , many of whom already exist in almost every aspect of the trade as in a plumber , admin , warehousing , marketing and all those

other critical roles currently of women , and many more that women could be doing .
Is there anything you would like to add in relation to SAWPI ? We are here to address the concerns and challenges of women in the sector and I would like very much to be a part of this growth . PA
