“ This is what empowering and transformation is about .”
Leading the way

One can only hope that our industry does not experience another 2020 . Not only from the devastation caused by Covid but the lack of insight and opportunities that arise in such bad situations .
This does not mean adopting the theft and corruption that came about by unscrupulous and dishonest people , but rather seeking opportunities to grow one ’ s business . In past and future issues , we have alluded to these opportunities . There are those that have risen to the challenge and those who sadly just threw up their hands and literally gave up .
Running one ’ s own business requires forward thinking , taking the bull by the horns and engaging with others in the same position and together making it happen .
The official bodies played their role and rose to the challenge by offering guidance and direction and we will always remember the generosity of those who could contribute to the IOPSA / PIRB initiative to assist those less fortunate .
Equally I was even more encouraged by a communication from IOPSA announcing that , together with PIRB , they are sponsoring 20 individuals in an ARPL process . The process is for those who have acquired knowledge and experience in the industry to access the trade test and become qualified .
This is what empowering and transformation is about . Further funding is in the ‘ SABS approved pipeline ’ enabling more individuals to lift themselves up and become a recognised part of the industry .
Credit to these two bodies and all those involved . So as individuals you can decide whether you want to rise to the occasion or stay downtrodden and whine about your poor lot in life !
Only you are the change you want .
Such a fine approach to a pressing problem . Plumbing Africa will sponsor one individual in addition to the current 20 and perhaps we can make 2021 a year to stop the moaning and spending time on issues that just take up so much time . Let us make 2021 a ‘ grow the Plumbing industry ’ year by everyone doing the right thing , resolving differences , and putting our efforts into one focus – be proud plumbers !
Perhaps other bodies and groups will want to rise to the challenge and equal or better IOPSA / PIRB action .
May the year of 2021 be what you want it to be , which will not be without pain and difficulties , and in which together we can rise above and be there for each other . PA
