FITTING THOUGHT 1

What have we learnt from 2020 ?

We kick off 2021 with a bumper issue of content , some of which invites forward thinking like exit strategy , and apprenticeships .
Vollie Brink talks about engineers and plumbers needing to think together to achieve best results .
Abe Stears joins our contributor ’ s panel . A man of many years ’ experience in accreditation and certification .
Our main story focuses on refurbished and illegal geyser and shoddy installation , which has already gone out to consumer press and the insurance industry . This is a prime example of the supply chain being responsible as per the Consumer Protection Act as the body corporate , plumber ( assuming he / she was one – which is doubtful ), the supplier and the manufacturer all become part of this chain and can all jointly and severally face criminal charges should someone wish to take action . Really wish they would !
Also , part of this criminal activity are those supplying the tanks to these ‘ manufacturers ’ and more of this in later issues as we investigate how they are getting these tanks which should be destroyed .
The industry bids farewell to Ryan Rolfe , who after 33 years in our industry with Kwikot has called it a day .
The IOPSA PLUMBING 2025 initiative , a five-year-plan , is overviewed in this issue , which we will cover in five issues .
An initiative that calls for participation from everyone in plumbing and deserves the support from all in this great industry of ours . We hear from PIRB and one of their compliance auditors on a very positive note and a letter of thanks from a school for the good work done by a plumbing concern . Many plumbers do great CSI work , and we thank them for that .
Finally , in recognising the plumber ’ s responsibility in serving the nation in looking after its health we look at legionella which has started manifesting itself in the UK , US and to some extent in South Africa . No , it is not Covid but a painful and deadly disease resulting from poor plumbing and unclean airducts .
That is exactly why qualified plumbers must do plumbing work as shown yet again in the letter from a plumber in this issue pointing out consequences of unqualified people interfering with plumbing .
So , 2021 has more good going for it than bad . PA
