NEWS 6 ACO was asked to provide a drainage solution for the concrete paved area that extends into the four vaults and for the platform upon which the building sits and where rainwater is collected for reuse. Drainage solution for Mont-Ras Drainage providers ACO has designed and manufactured a channel drainage system for a new winery building at the Bodegas Mont-Ras winery in Girona, Spain. Designed by architects Jorge Vidal and Víctor Rahola, the new building has been designed to complement the country house located at the winery site while also meeting wine production requirements. Manufactured from concrete, the building comprises four vaults plus three service zones, which provide storage space and house technical equipment. The building’s tasting room also has tunnel access to the upper part of the main country house. The structure of the new building is partially set into the ground and its roof is covered with grass. As a result, the humidity of the surrounding soil produces an indoor climate conducive to wine storage and keeps the indoor temperature at a more constant level. The building’s design also means that rainwater can be captured for reuse. ACO was asked to provide a drainage solution for the concrete paved area that extends into the four vaults and for the platform upon which the building sits and where rainwater is collected for reuse. Forty-five metres of ACO modular slot channels were specified for the concrete paved area outside the vaults and run discreetly over the entire area. The channels feature a groove of 8mm and were provided with flexible joints to ensure their total water tightness. With built-in slopes to facilitate cleaning and drainage, channels also benefit from several outlets and incorporate dry sumps that include extractable silt baskets and siphons to facilitate easy cleaning and maintenance.
