Plumbing is a scarce skill !

We are already in the second month of 2024 , and I have no doubt that we are all busy doing exceptional plumbing .
The heading reinforces the fact that plumbing is a scarce skill , confirmed by CETA in their quarterly column . It is made even scarcer when people do plumbing work that they are not qualified to do .
The CETA column clearly explains the processes and the assistance offered to become qualified .
The IOPSA Executive Director makes mention of the qualified plumber , and the more we all talk about it , the more we will contribute to ridding our industry of unqualified people and noncompliance . Kasi2kasi held its first open day , which is reported in this issue . This work is essential and needs all of our support – especially as more young people enter the job market . Its role also includes encouraging youngsters to become plumbers .
Uwe Putlitz continues part two of the rights and obligations in the world of contracting , and Charles Freedman continues guiding us along the path of building our businesses . The first Plumbing Travelling Exhibition ( PTE ) will be held on 14 March 2024 at the THS Louis Botha School in Bloemfontein . Having just returned from a trip to Bloem , I can confirm that there is much building going on , especially on the residential side .
Our feature is on clothing for winter . Plumbers do not have the privilege of wearing nice and warm winter woollies like the office folk to keep warm , but still need to be kept warm whilst they unfreeze pipes , repair burst pipes and fix other plumbing tricks played on the consumers by the winter season .
The project is 5 Park in Rosebank – one of a number of commercial and apartment blocks in the area .
IAPMO takes us through their history , highlighting the achievements that have impacted plumbing and water over the years – all of which we benefit from today .
Patrick Gordon talks to us about the PCV and making it work at peak
performance .
We continue with the JASWIC listing , which keeps the industry up to date with products that are accepted and carry the SANS accreditation .
By now , readers would have received the 2024 annual directory which makes life easy for those looking for companies , trademarks and products and services . The directory also appears online .
There have been several calls to revive the Wall of Shame , so please let us have photos of those installations – as serious as they are , they are also good for a laugh , and – in some cases – learning .
