12 ASSOCIATIONS
FINANCING The participating member ’ s own expenses ( travel and accommodation ) are covered by their representative organisations or by JASWIC when the participating organisations are unable to cover these costs . The application fees are additionally used to cover general administration costs such as paper , printing costs , maintenance of software programs and licenses .
COMPOSITION The committee members are nominated by their participating Authorities and Associations . The following organisations are represented on the committee : Tshwane ( Pretoria ); Ekurhuleni ( East Johannesburg ); Joburg Water ; eThekwini ( Durban ); Nelson Mandela ( Port Elizabeth ); Cape Town ; South African Bureau of Standards ( SABS ); Water Research Commission ( WRC ); Institute of Plumbing of South Africa ( IOPSA ).
STANDARDS The committee works closely with the SABS , since the acceptance standards for components to be listed have always been the SABS / SANS standards where these exist . New interim JASWIC “ R ” specifications are no longer drafted and developed by JASWIC , and it is a mandatory requirement that applications for JASWIC Acceptance should be accompanied by full specification test report ( s ) not older than one year ( against the current SANS standard ). JASWIC is represented on various SABS Technical Committees and Subcommittees dealing with National Standards and Codes of Practice for plumbing , water supply and sanitation related components and systems .
BENEFITS OF JASWIC ACCEPTANCE Numerous manufacturers / importers have elected to have their products JASWIC listed as this offers various benefits and furthermore suits the size of their operation and the volumes of product they intend selling . JASWIC listed components are subject to full compliance with the appropriate SA National Standards , and this therefore ensures that a reasonable standard of quality and working life of water installation components is maintained , whatever their source . In addition , the list of accepted products maintained by JASWIC is used by many municipalities as a valuable source of information for various water practitioners ranging from engineers and architects to artisans employed to carry out water and sanitation installations .
