Born into plumbing !

By
Rory Macnamara
Plumbing Africa posed a few questions to Zola Doch , a member of the SA Women in Plumbing ( SAWIP ) Exco .
What is your involvement in the plumbing industry ? I am a business owner that specialises in plumbing and leak detection . The name of my company is Kasha Construction T / A Just Plumbing Leak Detection Girls .
What do you believe is the greatest challenge for women in plumbing ? We are being overlooked for jobs because we are females – we are not being taken seriously .
Tell us something about your achievements . I am a diva , divinely inspired , victoriously anointed . I am a mother of two lovely boys aged ten and seven .

“ My mother is a plumber , my aunt is in construction , and I have a sister who is a plumber .”
Prior to entering the plumbing industry , I worked in the hospitality industry for most of my career , specialising in events . I have a number of major events under my belt of which I am immensely proud .
We will be seen , heard , and respected by our male counterparts . We will no longer be overlooked due to our gender . PA
I then ventured into the plumbing industry as I come from a family of women in the construction industry . My mother is a plumber , my aunt is in construction , and I have a sister who is a plumber .
What would you like to see change in the country ? More women involved in the plumbing industry , not just on paper , but doing the work and being recognised by our male peers as being capable plumbers .
See our children being taught how to become business owners , manufacturers , creators of products and services rather than being an employee . Our system failed us , especially during the pandemic . I would like to see safer areas of living and a reduced standard of living – the standard of living in our country is high .
How would you like to see this change happen and what would your contribution be ? Being a member of Women in Plumbing , has given me platform to be heard , create opportunities , and to have influence . Putting the youth , especially girls , through various plumbing and skills development courses . Giving them a voice to be able to stand in any environment and be confident in who they are . Not to be ashamed of where they come from but stand proud of their achievements and grow and build on their achievements .
Is there anything you would like to add in relation to SAWIP ? SAWIP and Zola are a team that needs to be recognised . SAWIP is enabling women in the plumbing industry , and girls who want to get into the plumbing industry , to reach greater heights .
