February is all about progress
The first quarter of 2022 is complete for the publishing business , and we trust it has been a good quarter so far for all our readers .
IOPSA talks of the critical role played by plumbers in the plumbing and water sectors , which must be noted by some suppliers who have commented that plumbers have little or no role to play when it comes to plumbing and water . Such contorted thinking needs a refresh and to adopt this thinking is at one ’ s peril !
As mentioned , we are actively engaging , as has IOPSA , with the LP Gas Association , particularly with the emphasis on climate change and cleaner materials . Gas installers must qualify under the SAQCC regulations , and this will be a growing sector . LP Gas explains what is needed to qualify .
Also promised , we publish the first in a series on Preventive Maintenance which has the potential to increase turnover and profitability for all plumbers and provides customers with peace of mind . Feel free to let us have your thoughts on this aspect of business .
Vollie Brink keeps us up to date with the relationship between engineers and plumbers and certainly provides food for thought .
The first in our series of ‘ Tell us why you became a plumbing contractor ’ kicks off in this issue . The poor response to the invite , which was exclusively open to IOPSA members , was a bit sad . But it is now open to all qualified plumbers . Our feature is on rainwater harvesting and treatment . This is a huge opportunity for plumbers and contracting plumbers have already seen the increased activity in this side of the business . There is gold waiting for the maintenance plumber out there for residential installations .
IAPMO keeps us abreast of the dreaded Legionella disease , which is sadly to say increasing worldwide , including our own country . Another reason for qualified plumbers to do plumbing work .
For our project , we look at the Glenhaven project in Cape Town and the use of state-of-the art technology in the water space showing clearly that affordable housing is adopting latest technology for water supply .
We continue our series on Women in Plumbing , and it is encouraging to see the progress being made not only as plumbers , but the essential role played by women in the office , training , and the supply chain .
Patrick Gordon keeps us up to date with the technical aspects of valves .
Enjoy the read ! PA
