Plumbing runs in the
Jasson family
As a youngster, Rashid Jasson looked up to his father, and
because of him, Jasson decided to pursue a career in the
plumbing industry.

Today, the 40-year-old plies his trade as a plumber
at Ngishilo Trading & Projects. Jasson credits his
father, who is also a plumber, for teaching him the
ins and outs of the industry from an early age. “I
loved what my father was doing during the early
years of my life, and it inspired me to go into
plumbing myself,” Jasson says. Apart from his
father, another factor that influenced Jasson’s career
choice was his passion for the industry. “I have been
passionate about plumbing from a very young age,”
he adds.

suggests that changing urban sewer lines into PVC would
be helpful to the industry.
Jasson is an avid cricket fan and enjoys playing the game
during his free time. “I enjoy playing cricket for an entire
day,” he says. Looking ahead, Jasson would like to one
day become a plumbing company owner. His advice to
others who would like to get into the industry is that they
must “always be positive”, especially on the decisions
they make. PA
Even though he was passionate and had his father to rely
on for help, learning the ropes of the industry was not
easy. “In the beginning, I was struggling to find my feet,
but as time went along, it became better and better,”
he explains.
Working in the industry, Jasson found that funding for
the plumbing industry is a major concern. “There is not
enough funding that is being put into plumbing.” He also
mentions that people do not realise that plumbers often
have to deal with difficult customers on a regular basis.
Another challenging aspect of the industry, in Jasson’s
view, is “connecting onto old galvanising piping”. He
