SA Women Plumbing Apprentices share their thoughts

Due to the success of our previous Plumbing Apprentices series last year , this year we have been running a new series which continues to share the amazing experiences of women who have entered the plumbing industry . This month we feature Promise Leburu from House of Plumbing .
1 . What is the best part of being an apprentice plumber ? Being part of 20 women in plumbing as this will change many people ’ s perception about women and their capabilities and also bring about changes in our communities because as a woman there ’ s this negative stigma that we can ’ t do physical labour .
2 . What is the worst part of being an apprentice plumber ? Being in a male dominated industry and being underestimated and overlooked because of my height and body structure I always have to prove that I can and will do it .
3 . How are you managing the worst part ? By always remembering that plumbing is not all about how much power you provide in a task but how quickly and efficiently you can do a task as well as having the best idea about how to do it .
5 . What will you contribute to plumbing when you qualify ? Ensuring that women value their capabilities in a male dominated industry and creating opportunities for them because when you empower a woman in construction , you empower the future of your country and give hope to young girls who dream of entering industries that are unconventional , that they can make it as long as they work hard to achieve their goals and believe in themselves .
6 . Who is your employer ? House of Plumbing , a division of Norcros SA .

4 . What do you believe plumbing is all about ? Plumbing consists of a system of pipes and fixtures installed in a building and all about the use of potable water and removal of waste and soil water .
7 . Are you a team player ? Yes I ’ m a team player because I have the ability to compromise , show respect to others and listen to the needs of my teammates . I understand the fact that a team environment is both productive and efficient . PA
